Really enjoyed reading that review Cultured Animal. I laughed out loud at your self-identification as a sports philistine. The novel sounds rather visceral at times; I might try to find a copy for the kindle.

If everything goes to timetable, it will be nearly 2 years til the next election. That’s a long, long time in pollitics, as David Marr on Lateline mentioned again tonight. Julia will win because Kev just doesn’t have the numbers. So it might give Labor time to actually recover and ‘get the job done’ so to speak.

Thanks for your comment, Hila. Planet Money is also worth checking out (they were behind this particular feature doco) – they do short radio stories on all things money, explained easily for economically challenged people such as myself.

There’s a scene in what is ostensibly a library filled with art books, and some of them are on display with their pages open at certain pictures. She turfs them away and replaces them with others of her choosing, including Millais’ Ophelia, but I couldn’t tell you what the others are. I don’t think the Waterhouse is in it, but I could be wrong. I’m sure the film is loaded with all sorts of carefully-placed references, and a more seasoned film-buff could probably catch me out on bits of this review, but whatevs …
Just saw this for the second time tonight, still wowed by the empathy the two leads evoke, still irked by the weird kid. Also, there were a couple of scenes at the beginning which I missed because I went out to get a wine, and not having known anything about the film when I first went to see it, I think I prefer not having seen them – they almost give too much away. But, maybe not, hard to say …
